This early version of the well-known Lopez theme is different from the longer and commonly-available Edison recording posted elsewhere. The song was composed by Felix Arndt in 1916, and this track was the earliest-recorded Lopez version to be issued, though his Edison session took place only about a week after the OKeh.
During the 1930s the band performed “Nola” on two Vitaphone movie shorts (one of them including a mock band revolt against the tune called “Down With Nola”); then at a studio session in early 1940 Lopez updated the theme in a swinging new arrangement released on Bluebird (also posted).
Transferred from the original 78rpm: OKeh 4579 - Nola (Arndt) by Vincent Lopez and his Hotel Pennsylvania Orchestra, recorded in NYC c. March 20, 1922 .
