Taiwan’s President Arrives in US , Despite China’s Warnings.
NPR reports that President Tsai Ing-wen is
in America and has a multi-day itinerary.
She issued a statement to reporters
before leaving Taipei.

Tsai will make stops in Central and
North America amid a time of tension
for the Asian democratic island.
NPR reports that Honduras formally switched its allegiance to China last week after previously recognizing Taiwan's authority.
Belize and Guatemala, both of which
still side with Taiwan, are expected to welcome the president this week.
Next week, Tsai will meet with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles.

Beijing, which maintains that Taiwan is included
in its territory, is not happy about Tsai's trip.
According to Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson
for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, .
Tsai's meeting with McCarthy is considered to be "another provocation that seriously violates the one-China principle, harms China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.".
Zhu added that China "firmly opposes this and will definitely take measures to resolutely fight back."
