Train Carrying Ethanol Derails , and Catches on Fire in Minnesota.
According to BNSF Railway, 22 cars "carrying mixed freight including ethanol and corn syrup" derailed early on March 30 in Raymond, Minnesota.
NBC News reports
that several of the
cars burst into flames.
Residents who live near the crash site
were forced to evacuate.
No injuries were reported, and BNSF Railway is investigating to determine the cause of the accident.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg
took to Twitter following the crash.
The incident comes after several other
trains have derailed in recent weeks.
Most notably, a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, in February and spilled hazardous materials.
The chemicals had to be burned
in order to prevent an explosion.
Half of the town was evacuated, and residents still worry about the environmental and health impacts.
