In the Kyiv region's north, in the exclusion zone surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Ukrainian military conducts exercises.Just 15 kilometres from the Belarusian border, artillery and tanks take part in the exercises, which coincide with a surprise visit to Kyiv by US President Joe Biden. "The goal is to repel an enemy offensive from the side of the Republic of Belarus" explains Sergiy Nayev, a commander overseeing the exercises, "I am a maths teacher by education... but this year I have gained knowledge that helps me to serve."
