The government needs to consider the depleting funds of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors before allowing another round of special withdrawal programmes, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Gombak MP said during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Royal Address in Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Feb 20) that the remaining savings of contributors are becoming more worrying following several special withdrawal initiatives since the country was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim called for an emergency motion urging the government to expedite the EPF withdrawal in a targeted manner, but was rejected by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul, who asked Shahidan to bring back the motion after Budget 2023 was tabled.
