माघ मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी को जया एकादशी के नाम से जाना जाता है। जया एकादशी व्रत इस साल 1 फरवरी यानी आज है। इस एकादशी का पद्म पुराण में बड़ा ही महत्व बताया गया है। पुराणों में बताया गया है कि मृत्यु के बाद जीव को अपने कर्मों के अनुसार अनेक अदृश्य शरीर में जाना होता है जिसे प्रेत और भूत पिशाच की योनी कहा जाता है। जया एकादशी को इन्हीं अशरीरी योनियों से मुक्ति दिलाने वाला कहा गया है।
