Two tourists were killed while seven others were missing when a flash flood hit a gorge during the Chinese New Year holiday in China.The holidaymakers were taking selfies between the scenic rock formations at the isolated area of a dam when there was a sudden gush of water in Shanxi province on January 22.Frantic tourists rushed to escape the deluge but most of them were trapped in the middle of heavy currents.Shocking footage shows tourists fighting to reach higher ground as they were swept away. There was also a group of tourists who were waiting on the riverbanks, seemingly confused about what to do after the unexpected incident.One of the tourists said: ‘We were told that there used to be a danger sign here but it was destroyed or gone. We didn't know it was off limits.'Eight people were rescued and taken to the hospital, with six of them being discharged later that day. Two of them remained at the hospital receiving further treatment.However, two died on the scene as medics failed to revive them after drowning. Authorities searched for seven others who have swept away along the gorge.The area, which is within the Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project had been closed off while its officials conducted an investigation.
