There has been "backsliding" on women's equality, democracy, children rights and freedom of expression across the globe, the UN Human Rights Chief warned on Wednesday.

Volker Türk said Afghanistan stands out as an “extreme example” of the deteriorating situation of women and girls rights, but added a similar trend is also seen in the “global north”.
