Doom of the ‘sinking’ Joshimath is being pinned on its development. As the hill town continues to descend, a NTPC tunnel stands in the dock.

From activists to politicos to locals, all have declared the Tapovan Vishnugad Hydroelectric Project guilty.

Locals had previously protested against National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) seeking their withdrawal from the state. The construction work of the tunnel was stopped with immediate effect, till further orders.

Many, however, blamed the prevailing situation on constructing roads and tunnels for a nearby hydroelectric project.
