Shilpa Mudbi launched the Urban Folk Project in 2017 with an aim to bring folk art from Karnataka to urban audiences.
She also performs traditional songs like 'Sobane' and 'Jogula'.
One of the art forms that she is trying to highlight is Yellammaanata, which is practiced by the Devadasi and Jogathi (transgender) communities in parts of North Karnataka. In order to do this, Shilpa has been conducting workshops and classes to teach people these songs and also to play traditional instruments like Chowkdi and Shruthi.
