“After performing my song, they all stood up and applauded me and that’s when I realized, ‘woah, there’s a lot of power in the thing that I’m doing.’ I can actually connect with people in a way that I cannot connect if I do it via speech.” Duncan Laurence first fell in love with music when he needed it most. He discovered he could use music to avoid the bullies who harassed him for his love of art and as a way to turn the darkness into something light. In an interview with Gayety, Laurence said this is even more true today. “Now that I’m making new music, I’m just fully, you know, finally accepting of who I am, my sexuality, me as a person. And I’m finally ready to just fully open up towards the world.
