Previously private data such as emails,
handles, and creation date can be
leveraged to build smarter and more
sophisticated hacking, phishing
and disinformation campaigns, Rafi Mendelsohn, spokesman for social

According to some reports, the leaked data
was collected in 2021 through a known bug
in Twitter's systems that was fixed in 2022.
The repairs came after a similar leak occurred in
July that involved 5.4 million Twitter accounts and
brought the vulnerability to the platform's attention.
Security researchers warn that the leak could be used
to unmask dissidents, journalists, activists and other
at-risk users who depend on online anonymity.
