Australia private equity firm purchases department store chain

David Jones has been sold to Australian private equity investors for a fraction of the price its south African owners paid for it almost a decade ago. Woolworth's south Africa bought David Jones for two-point-one billion in 2014 and whilst the sales price remains undisclosed "anchorage capital partners" is believed to have paid much less. Anchorage will try and turnaround the 184-year-old retailer that operates 43 stores in Australia and New Zealand as well as two distribution centres and an online business.
