Yesterday! India assumed Presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of December. During this month, India will host several events on countering terrorism and reformed multilateralism. Representing India at the main table of the powerful UN Security Council would be Ruchira Kamboj. India’s first female Permanent Representative to the UN. She succeeds T.S. Tirumurti for this enviable post. In 1953, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit became the first woman President of the General Assembly….and now Ruchira Kamboj has become the first Indian woman to be the President of the Security Council.
