In an annual festive tradition, the Prime Minister has turned on the lights of the Downing Street Christmas tree.Rishi Sunak said the Christmas story was “one of hospitality and compassion”, adding that he and his wife, Akshata Murty, were “really pleased to welcome” Ukrainians who had found shelter in Britain, winners of the Points of Light award and serving personnel from Catterick Garrison to Downing Street on Monday evening.After leading a five-second countdown, Mr Sunak switched on the lights of the tree, which is tall enough to reach the first floor of No 10 and is topped by a golden star.The Prime Minister and his wife then watched school children sing Christmas carols including O Come, All Ye Faithful outside No 10.
