A barrage of missiles struck Kherson on Thursday in a marked escalation of attacks on the city recently recaptured by Ukraine.Soldiers in the region had warned that Kherson would face intensified strikes as Russian troops dig in across the Dnieper river . The attack struck some residential neighbourhoods not previously hit . At least five people were killed , according to witnesses who spoke to Associated Press reporters . Four died outside a coffee shop and one woman was killed next to her house . Scores of others were injured in strikes that hit residential and commercial buildings , lighting some on fire , blowing ashes into the air and littering the streets with shattered glass . Outside shelled apartment buildings , residents picked up debris and frantically searched for relatives while paramedics helped the injured .
