With 233 cases, 8 deaths, Mumbai witnesses sudden surge in Measles cases

As Mumbai is witnessing a spike in Measles cases among children, BMC Executive Health Officer Mangala Gomare on November 24 informed that the authorities have received 233 lab-confirmed cases so far. The committee has also confirmed 8 deaths in the city whereas the BMC is on an alert amid the same.

“We are seeing a lot of Measles cases in children. GoI is also aiming to end Measles and Rubella by December 2023. However, we are seeing a rise in the Measles cases. We also have some high-risk wards. We are witnessing more cases in some areas of Mumbai. We have got 233 lab-confirmed cases so far. 9 deaths have been reported so far. 8 deaths have been confirmed by the committee. BMC is working on it. We have mobilised more staff in high-risk wards. We have also mobilised staff from other departments. Central Government’s team suggested to increase the admission facility,” the BMC Executive Health Officer said.
