A student pilot has spent six days flying 4,000 miles across the UK and Channel Islands - to raise £10k for charity. Lyle Weir, 24, set off in a four-seater PIPER Aircraft on September 1, and was flying for six to eight hours a day on his travels. He flew with his friend Simone Huntley, 35, who documented the whole journey, and together they raised thousands of pounds for The Mix. The Mix is a UK based, mental health charity that provides free, confidential support for young people under 25. Lyle Weir, from Gloucester, said: "Mental health is such an important topic and I wanted to do something special to raise money for a great cause. "We've smashed our target of £10,000 and the fundraiser is still open so the figure keeps climbing - it's incredible." Lyle started training to fly with Aeros Flight Training in 2020. He is just months away from graduating flight school and gaining his commercial pilot licence after years of studying and preparation. Lyle has already gained his general aviation licence, so he decided to fly around the UK and channel islands to raise money for mental health.
