सनातन परंपरा में हर दिन किसी न किसी देवी-देवता के की पूजा या उपवास से जुड़ा होता है. आस्था से जुड़े आश्विन मास में पितृपक्ष, नवरात्र आदि पर्वों के साथ संतान की लंबी आयु की कामना लिए जीवित्पुत्रिका व्रत रखा जाता है. यह व्रत हर साल आश्विन मास के कृष्णपक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि को रखा जाता है जो कि इस साल 18 सितंबर को पड़ने जा रही है. इस व्रत को मुख्य रूप से भारत में बिहार, झारखण्ड और उत्तर प्रदेश तथा नेपाल में मनाया जाता है. जिस जितिया व्रत का नाम गंधर्व राजकुमार जीमूतवाहन के नाम पर रखा गया है, आइए उस व्रत को क्यों किया जाता है.

In the Sanatan tradition, every day is associated with the worship or fasting of some deity. In the month of Ashwin associated with faith, along with festivals like Pitru Paksha, Navratri etc., Jivitputrika fast is kept for the long life of the children. This fast is kept every year on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month, which is going to fall on 18th September this year. This fast is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh and Nepal in India. The Jitiya Vrat which is named after the Gandharva prince Jimutvahan, let us see why that Vrat is observed.
