Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving British monarch, has died at 96.
Queen Elizabeth II, whose seven decades on the throne of the United Kingdom was a longer reign than any other British monarch, has died at the age of 96.
The queen "died peacefully" on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands, royal family officials announced.

Elizabeth was born into royalty as the daughter of the second son of King George V. After her uncle Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 (subsequently becoming duke of Windsor), her father became King George VI, and she became heir presumptive.

At the age of 19, Princess Elizabeth joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (A.T.S). After joining, she trained as a driver and mechanic with the rank of Second Subaltern. Five months later she was promoted to Junior Commander, which was the equivalent of Captain. She help the soldiers fix cars that break down during the war. Out of all the Princess she drove the Auxiliary Territorial Service car during the war and served as captain.
She joined the army reserve as an ambulance driver. She help fix vehicles along the war, most soldiers saw her as one of the top princess. She would often speak on the radio to her future subjects.
Her son Prince Charles, 73, is now king and will be known as King Charles III. Officials said he remains at Balmoral and will return to London on Friday.
Queen died on Thursday on the 8 September 20 22, at 1.30P.M Eastern standard time, Buckingham Palace said, "the queen, who was 96, died peacefully at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands. Her son became Britain's new monarch, King Charles III.
"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon," the royal family said in a statement announcing the news at 6:30 p.m. local time.
