Indonesia’s 77th anniversary of its independence was celebrated at the site of the country’s future capital, Nusantara on August 17, 2022. This followed the approval on by the country’s parliament on January 18 for the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to the island of Borneo. Jakarta has long been plagued with congestion, flooding and air pollution and is sinking twice as fast as the global average for major coastal cities.
