A two-album band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1970 by guitarist Alan DeCarlo and keyboardist David James "Hawk" Wolinski, former members of the Bangor Flying Circus. Signed to Columbia Records, they recorded two albums produced by James William Guercio (The Buckinghams and The Chicago Transit Authority). The name of the group was inspired by the Hindu temple of Meenakshi, located in the city of Madurai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
