Project to restore near-extinct Matchstick Grasshoppers in Melbourne

Hundreds of tiny, flightless grasshoppers are being released into Melbourne's Royal Park as part of a pilot project addressing biodiversity problems. The Matchstick Grasshopper is a declining native Australian species which is extinct in the local area. Professor Michael Kearney from the bio-sciences department at the University of Melbourne says the species is an important food source for other animals.
