A state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka as protests escalated after embattled President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the crisis-hit island nation on Wednesday. Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as acting president, has declared a state of emergency and imposed curfew in the western province. This is the third time that an emergency has been imposed in the country. An unprecedented economic meltdown that resulted in fuel shortages, food insecurity and skyrocketing inflation and President leaving the country resulted in violent protest, where around 30 protestors got injured.
