Geetanjali Shree receives first booker for an Indian language novel

Indian author Geetanjali Shree wins the International Booker Prize, 2022 for her translated Hindi novel ‘Tomb of Sand’ becoming the first book written in an Indian language to receive a Booker. Originally published in Hindi as Ret Samadhi, the book is translated into English by Daisy Rockwell. The novel is about an 80-year-old mother dealing with depression after the death of her husband. It talks about her yearning to move on and visit Pakistan. The novel is highly praised for its style of narration and the themes that it covers. The Booker Prize award ceremony was held on 26 May in London.
