"Amid the gyanvapi mosque issue, several citizens are expressing their views on Twitter and other social media platforms. Especially after the discovery of a structure in the mosque well that Hindu side claims is a Shivaling while the Muslim side says it is a Fountain. After these claims, several netizens mocked the Hindu side by posting images of dome shaped structures asking whether the petitioners will follow the suit with these structures as well.
In one such case, Delhi University professor too had mocked this in a post. On the night of Friday, May 20th,the DU professor was arrested for this social media post on the ‘shivling’ allegedly found inside Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque complex.
Hindu College history teacher Ratan Lal was arrested under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 295A (deliberate act to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion) of the Indian Penal Code, by the Cyber Police Station, North.
