The United States reported its first case of monkeypox on May 18. As reported by The Washington Post, a man in Massachusetts tested positive for the virus after visiting Canada. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health said in a statement that the man was tested for the virus May 17, and the infection was confirmed by the CDC on May 18. As reported by AFP, health authorities in North America and Europe have detected dozens of suspected or confirmed cases of monkeypox since early May. Reportedly, Canada is probing more than a dozen cases of monkeypox. Spain and Portugal detected more than 40 possible and verified cases. Since May 6, Britain has confirmed nine cases.
