Isa, a Galapagos Volcán Alcedo giant tortoise, kicked off her 94th year with a personalized cake from her caretakers at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden.
Isa is still pretty young for a Galapagos tortoise — the creatures typically live to be more than 100 years old. They’re among the longest-living vertebrates on the planet. Galapagos tortoises are struggling in the wild, and the Volcán Alcedo giant tortoise specifically is listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. However, their populations are increasing due to conservation efforts.
