In Eastern Samar, a market vendor and former barangay chairman beat a well-known family in the mayoral race.

Rodrigo Rivera seemed unlikely to win against his rival who was backed by the outgoing Mayor of Dolores town.

Rivera won with the help of volunteers and townmates who knew him from the public market.
