The Supreme Court, while giving a historic order on the sedition law, has stayed it. The court heard a petition challenging the validity of this law, in which the Center had sought time to review its provisions. In such a situation, till the revision of this law is not completed by the government, no new case can be registered under this law. While issuing the order in this regard, the court mentioned several important points.

सु्पीम कोर्ट ने देशद्रोह कानून पर ऐतिहासिक आदेश देते हुए, इस पर रोक लगा दी है। कोर्ट ने इस कानून की वैधता को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका पर सुनवाई की, जिसमें केन्द्र ने इसके प्रावधानों के पुनरीक्षण के लिये समय मांगा था। ऐसे में सरकार की ओर से जब तक इस कानून का पुनरीक्षण पूरा नहीं कर लिया जाता, तब तक इस कानून के तहत कोई नया मामला दर्ज नहीं किया जा सकेगा। इस संबंध में आदेश जारी करते हुए कोर्ट ने कई महत्वपूर्ण बिंदुओँ का ज़िक्र किया।
