Pt Shivkumar Sharma, renowned santoor player, died in Mumbai on May 10. The santoor maestro suffered a heart attack, reported PTI. He died at his Pali Hill residence in Mumbai between 8 and 8:30 am, his secretary Dinesh told PTI. 84-year-old legendary santoor player was one of India's most well-known classical musicians. Pt Shivkumar Sharma was due to perform in Bhopal next week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to express grief. He tweeted, “Our cultural world is poorer with the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji. He popularised the santoor at a global level.” Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu tweeted, “He was instrumental in bringing Santoor to the centre stage of classical music. His death is a huge loss to the world of music.” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, “Deepest condolences to his family, friends & fans of his art.” Hema Malini tweeted, “A gentleman to the core, he will be missed by many associated with him as also his admirers all over the world.” Watch the video to know more.
