John Alexander Dowie was the prototype many modern "faith healers" and Charismatics try to emulate. In the late 1800s, Dowie built a religious empire, financial empire, and political powerhouse using many techniques still used today by religious stage personalities. Members of William Branham’s campaign team such as F. F. Bosworth and Gordon Lindsay were heavily influenced by Dowie’s doctrine and power.
One of Dowie’s teachings was that humans were made in a “Trinity” after the design of God. Dowie created diagrams of this design using four circles, one representing the spirit, one representing the soul, and one representing the body, all contained in one circle representing the human. He called it the “trinity made in the image of God”.
In the Trinitarian versions of William Branham’s stage persona, William Branham taught John Alexander Dowie’s “human trinity”. According to those versions of the stage persona, “Everything you look at is in a trinity, and a trinity in one”. Other versions of Branham’s stage persona taught that “there’s no such thing as a trinity”, and that it was “catholic error”.
