NPR reports that the Department of Justice
has submitted a new rule which aims to
slow the spread of "ghost guns.".
"Ghost guns" are untraceable firearms.
They do not have serial numbers.
According to NPR, in 2021, nearly 20,000 ghost guns were seized by authorities and reported to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Since 2016, the amount of recovered
ghost guns has increased tenfold.
Ghost guns are likely to be created
with "buy build shoot" kits.
Officials say anyone can purchase a
ghost gun kit, as background checks
aren't mandated to buy them.
Until they're put together, they're not considered guns. , Alex McCourt, assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University's

Officials say updated ghost gun rules
won't ban "buy build shoot" kits, but they
should allow regulations to be more like
those made for traditional firearms.
