Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on March 29, while speaking on the strategy of the Centre over the Russian invasion of Ukraine, said that Financial Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s assumptions have no significant impact. “One obvious impact of the Ukraine crisis is the dramatic increase in fuel prices. FM Nirmala had estimated oil at $75 per barrel but it is as high as $100 and in those circumstances, all her calculations and assumptions have no significant impact,” he said.
The leader also said that a knock-on effect on the prices of other products will happen. "Ukraine has been highly productive in terms of wheat export. One small silver lining is that our Punjabi farmers will be able to sell wheat at a higher price.”
