International Mother Language Day is celebrated across the world on 21 February. The purpose of celebrating this day is to create trends and spread awareness among people about their language and culture around the world. In the year 1999, UNESCO announced to celebrate Mother Language Day. For the first time in the year 2000, this day was celebrated as International Mother Language Day.

विश्व भर में 21 फरवरी को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस मनाया जाता है. इस दिन को मनाने का उद्देश्य दुनिया भर में अपनी भाषा-संस्कृति के प्रति लोगों में रुझान पैदा करना और जागरुकता फैलाना है. साल 1999 में मातृभाषा दिवस मनाने की घोषणा यूनेस्को ने की थी. साल 2000 में पहली बार इस दिन को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस के रूप में मनाया गया था.
