Amid the ongoing ‘Hijab row’, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on February 12 promised to bring Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand if BJP is voted back to power. “Soon after its swearing-in, the new BJP government will form a committee to prepare a draft of Uniform Civil Code in the state. This UCC will provide for the same laws regarding marriages, divorce, land, property, and inheritance for all people, irrespective of their faith,” said Pushkar Dhami. The minister, fighting from the Khatima constituency added, “If the new BJP government is formed, we promise to keep the culture and heritage of 'Devbhoomi' intact. It is our prime duty.”
