The Women’s Government Pre-University College in Udupi banned eight Muslim girls for wearing the hijab in December. Another government pre-university college in Kundapura barred over 20 students from entering the campus for wearing the hijab on February 3. While these young Muslim girls protest their college’s decision, there have been counter protests against the hijab by other college students who wore saffron scarves. Some colleges have reacted by banning the hijab and the saffron scarf.
