Several human rights groups in New York City and Washington staged protests against the Beijing Winter Olympics on February 3, 2022, hours before the opening ceremony was scheduled to take place in the Chinese capital. During the first rally, about 100 people gathered outside the Chinese consulate in New York before marching to Times Square chanting slogans criticising China’s human rights records. US Congressman Tom Suozzi also joined the demonstration.
