US President Joe Biden said that he will nominate the country’s first black woman supreme court judge after Justice Stephen Breyer announced that he would retire from the bench. Biden said that he expects to choose a nominee before the end of February. The President said the selection process will be \"rigorous,\" and that he will \"select a nominee worthy of Justice Breyer's legacy of excellence and decency.\" Breyer formally notified the White House of his intention to leave at the end of this year's Supreme Court term on January 27. Breyer told Biden in the letter that he had decided to retire at the end of the term \"assuming that by then my successor has been nominated and confirmed.\"
