This week on NL #Hafta, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Manisha Pande, Raman Kirpal, and Mehraj D Lone are joined by author and journalist Hridayesh Joshi.

Hridayesh begins by talking about his book, Rage of the River, which analysed the Kedarnath disaster. On the uncertainty surrounding the cause of the recent disaster in #Uttarakhand, and its ramifications, he stresses the need for an “early warning system” as well as a robust disaster management response.

Raman asks about the rescue operations in Tapovan, and Hridayesh says the administration concentrated its efforts only on the NTPC power project. Manisha adds: “What is happening in the villages is unknown.”

Moving on to Narendra Modi’s speech in the Parliament on the farmer protests, the panel discusses what the prime minister meant by #AndolanJeevi. They also discuss Twitter’s response to the government’s notice to suspend a bunch of accounts. Mehraj points out, “Twitter has no authority to do it.”

The panel also talks about threats to journalists, secularism in sports and Bollywood, and a lot more.
