With barely just a few days to go before polling, all eyes are on Rajasthan where a massive tussle seems to be ensuing between a confident Congress and an adamant BJP. However, an important factor in the prelude to this election is the unemployment crisis being faced by the youth of this state.
Rajasthan has a very active and outspoken student body community—one that doesn’t shy away from keeping things real. Newslaundry correspondent Amit Bhardwaj recently interacted with students at the prestigious Rajasthan University in an effort to find out whether the youth’s concerns have been addressed in the manifestos of various political parties. With 48 hours left before the state goes to polls, surely this is an important issue that all the parties must have touched upon?
Holding the fort down at Vivekananda Park, Amit spoke to a bunch of young students who are pursuing various degrees at the University about what they thought the manifestos were lacking, and whether the concerns addressed by political parties were the ones that they, i.e. the student body, wanted.
“There are no special privileges given to women in the university—there aren’t even women security guards,” said a female student. Another student said: “It is shameful that at a time when political leaders should be talking of development and progress, they are instead talking about dharm, mandir, and religion.”
“There is a saying that every five years, Rajasthan University produces good political leaders,” said Amit. “Others say that it [the university] is also used as a sort of launchpad.” Will either of this happen? Only time will tell.
