On October 27, India carried out the latest test of the 5,000 km range Agni-5 missile. The test was carried out from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. The missile uses a three-stage solid-fuelled engine. This successful test is in line with the country’s stated policy to have ‘credible minimum deterrence’ that underpins the commitment to ‘No First Use’, the defence ministry said in a statement. This latest test-firing of the missile, built by the Defence Research Development Organisation's (DRDO) was conducted at a time when India and China are locked in a border row in the Ladakh sector.
