On the occasion of Teacher's Day, President Ram Nath Kovind presented National Awards to teachers in Delhi. Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal and Minister of State (MoS) for Human Resource Development (HRD) Sanjay Dhotre was also present at the ceremony. Awards were presented to 46 exceptional teachers for their commitment to improve the quality of school education. The award is in its 61st year having been instituted in 1958. Teacher's Day in India is celebrated in the memory of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan whose birth anniversary falls on September 5. Dr Radhakrishnan was a renowned academic and served as the President of India from 1962 to 1967.
