Delhi's Chipko Andolan movement to save trees in and around Sarojini Nagar made headlines for days. But this protest isn't the first time Delhiites have come together to protect their trees. In the years leading up to the Commonwealth Games 2010, students and members of Residents Welfare Associations gathered to prevent trees from being razed to make way for courts and stadiums. They protested near Siri Fort and on Delhi University's North Campus. These efforts haven't always been successful. Construction of the Delhi Metro cleared around 1 lakh trees in the city. So will Delhi's recent protests be enough?
