Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings by handling against Kolkata. Both took the team's score to 32 runs. Varun Chakraborty, who came to the fifth over of the innings, got the team the first success by dismissing Prithvi for 18 runs. Marcus Stoinis returned on board after scoring 18 runs off Shivam Mavi. The biggest blow to the Delhi team, Varun dismissed Dhawan, who was playing fiercely. After scoring 36 runs, he gave his catch to Shakib, Shakib took the catch in Superman style and walked Dhawan.
