Ubud is a remarkable city in Bali, recently voted as one of the fascinating cities of Asia. It is also known as the cultural centre of Bali, Indonesia.


Bali is an island located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia. It has Java to its west and Lombok to the east. It has its provincial capital at Denpasar and it is one of the 33 provinces Indonesia has. The province envelopes a few small neighbouring islands as well as the isle of Bali. The 2010 census recorded its population as 3,891,000. In the 2000 census about 92.29% of Bali's population adhered to Balinese Hinduism while the rest follow Islam. It is the country's largest tourist destination and is known for its highly developed arts which include traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking and music. Bali has seen a further surge in tourist numbers in recent years and has been a tourist haven for decades.
