After a weekend of high political drama, Punjab will see a new chief minister being sworn in on Monday – Charanjit Singh Channi, who was nominated to the post after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned on Saturday. 48-year old Channi, a three time MLA from Chamkaur Sahib constituency was the surprise selection after names like Sunil Jhakar, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Navjot Singh Sidhu were floated. Channi’s nomination as the leader of Punjab’s Congress Legislature Party was announced by the state incharge Harish Rawat. Soon after, wishes poured in as Rahul Gandhi, Amarinder Singh, Navjot Sidhu, posted messages of support. However, soon after Channi’s name was confirmed, BJP raked up the ‘MeToo’ case against him.
