Nicki Minaj On Met Gala Absence Amid COVID-19 Diagnosis
After a hiatus due to COVID-19, the Met Gala is finally back, but Nicki Minaj won't be in attendance. Just before the red carpet started, Nicki tweeted that she isn't going to the star-studded event because it requires proof of vaccination.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met,” Nicki wrote on Twitter. “It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”
In subsequent tweets, Nicki spread misinformation about supposed side effects of the vaccine, and seemed to say she contracted COVID-19 just before the MTV Video Music Awards.
This year's Met Gala requires attendees to show proof of vaccination, and to wear masks while indoors, except while eating or drinking. While Nicki advocated for mask wearing to prevent COVID-19, the vaccine has been shown to be both safe and effective at preventing severe illness and death from the novel virus.
