Kerala government on August 10 said that no public observation of festivals or mass gatherings will be allowed in the state. The notification comes as the festival season is about to begin. The state government said that Onam, Muharram, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chathurthi and Durga Puja celebrations can lead to the rise in Covid-19 cases. The decision was taken by the Disaster Management department of Kerala. The central government has alerted all states about the possibility of mass gatherings during these festivals turning into super spreaders of Covid-19, an order issued Chief Secretary V P Joy said.
