Insider visited Mudgil Dermatology to speak with Adarsh Vijay Mudgil, MD about how PRF works. PRF or platelet-rich fibrin is a common treatment dermatologists use to treat hair loss. It’s often compared to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) but PRF is considered slightly more effective because it carries more proteins and nutrients that help with hair growth. First, a patient’s blood is drawn, then mixed in a centrifuge to separate the PRF from the blood components. The PRF contains platelets with white blood cells and stem cells that stimulate hair follicles when injected. Once enough PRF is extracted, it’s injected into the scalp, usually around the crown. A recommended treatment plan is to come once every three months, then follow up every four months. The treatment costs TK and results can appear between the second and third treatments.
